Benedikt Carpzov

Benedikt Carpzov the Younger was a German criminal lawyer and a witchcraft theoretician who wrote extensively on witch processes. His 1635 work Practica Rerum Criminalium dealt with the trial of those accused of witchcraft, supporting the use of torture to extract confessions from the accused. Carpzov is considered the founder of the German jurisprudence. He is also known under pen-name Ludovicus de Montesperato.
